An allowlist, not a blocklist
Blocklists are always behind. A new scam domain is registered, used for a day, and abandoned before anyone reports it — so a filter that works by recognising bad domains is permanently one step late.
ScoutBot works the other way round. You list the domains your server
expects to see — your own site, your docs, the tools your community
actually uses — and anything else is flagged the moment it is posted.
Subdomains of an approved domain are approved too, so listing
example.com covers
docs.example.com.
What is never flagged
- Discord’s own links and Tenor GIFs, always — message jump links and reaction GIFs are not something anyone wants alerts about.
- The server owner.
- Members you have whitelisted by ID.
- Optionally, everyone holding one of your safe roles — the same roles the impersonation checks protect, so there is one list to maintain rather than two.
What an alert looks like
A message in the channel you nominate, naming the member, the channel they posted in, and the text of the message, with a jump link straight to it. You can also have a role pinged, which is worth reserving for servers where somebody is actually watching.
Honest scope
Discord’s own AutoMod has included suspicious-link blocking since 2026 and it is free for every server. If basic link blocking is all you need, use it — ScoutBot’s link filtering is worth having when you want an allowlist you control, alerts routed to a channel with jump links, and the same safe-role and whitelist exemptions the rest of the product uses. It is not the reason to install ScoutBot; impersonation detection is.
